TENSILE TESTER FOR PLASTIC WITH PNEUMATIC SYSTEM BY USING MICROCONTROLLER FOR DIVERSIVICATION DESTRUCTIVE TESTING of NON METAL






Development of plastic molding in materials laboratory of Technical Engineering Polytechnic have walked since forming of Polytechnic in the year 1982 until now, student and instructor have never tested strength of plastic product. This matter because laboratory not yet owned the tensile tester for plastic. This research will make tester for plastic with pneumatic system by using microcontroller in order to student can know how far the quality of plastic so that can be analyzed and obtained good method plastic molding ( evaluated from tensile strength).




Important considering to know tensile strength of plastic from result of plastic molding practicing which above mentioned, hence require to be made appliance tester of tensile strength for plastic, result of making the tensile tester will be big useful for development of materials laboratory specially for non metal material.

According to result of research have been made tensile tester for plastic ( see picture 1.) and data result of experiment for plastic of PP, LDPE, and HDPE ( see picture 2.).
From result of making and testing of tensile tester for plastic with pneumatic system by using microcontroller can be summered as follows

  • Tensile tester for plastic have the specification of dimension : 500 x 180 x 60 mm, maximum stroke : 100 mm, and maximum pressure for cylinder : 3 bar.
  • From result of making and testing of tensile tester for third plastic had result maximum strength and tensile strain for PP ( polypropylene) materials σt = 13,86 N/mm2 and ε = 21,78 %, materials of LDPE ( Low Density Polyethylene) σt = 10,16 N/mm2 and ε = 84,2 %, and materials of HDPE ( High Density Polyethylene) σt = 21,72 N/mm2 and ε = 4,67 %.
  • Result of this elite give recommendation as follows : The tensile tester suit of laboratory, test piece have to from non metal materials especially plastic that have maximum strength 42 N/ mm2 and crossing area is 12 mm2 ( according to SII 0431 - 81).
